What Are Inlays?

Inlays are used to fill in areas of a tooth that has developed tooth decay and lost its normal structure. Similar to dental fillings, inlays are applied inside the tooth to restore both its form and function.

We use ceramic and porcelain to match your inlays with your natural tooth color. By bonding your new inlays to your tooth, we can effectively replace silver amalgam fillings and restore your smile to a seamless appearance.

What Are Onlays?

Similar to inlays, onlays also go inside your tooth. However, onlays differ by extending out to the chewing surface of your teeth. At one time, onlays were only offered in gold. However, modern advancements in dentistry have allowed us to offer onlays in special compounds that mimic natural teeth.

Who Needs Inlays & Onlays?

Teeth that are decayed may need inlays. If your tooth has so much decay that it can’t be filled with traditional fillings, yet there isn’t enough decay to warrant a dental crown, inlays may be a great fit for your needs.

If your tooth is badly decayed, resulting in a missing chewing surface, our dentists can apply onlays and restore your tooth to its natural form and function. This will also prevent further decay from developing on that tooth.

With proper care and regular dental visits, you can look forward to your new inlays or onlays lasting 30 years – possibly longer!
